Installation
taken from https://cockpit-project.org/running#debian
Cockpit is available in Debian since version 10 (Buster).
To get the latest version, we recommend to enable the backports repository:
. /etc/os-release
echo "deb http://deb.debian.org/debian ${VERSION_CODENAME}-backports main" | \
sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/backports.list
sudo apt update
Install or update the package:
sudo apt install -t ${VERSION_CODENAME}-backports cockpit
There's a little hickup - for whatever reason . /etc/os-release does not set the env $VERSION_CODENAME, hence we go with source ...`
source /etc/os-release
Now update the sources...
echo "deb http://deb.debian.org/debian ${VERSION_CODENAME}-backports main" | \
sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/backports.list
and fetch the data
sudo apt update
and finally install cockpit
sudo apt install -t ${VERSION_CODENAME}-backports cockpit
For updating: source /etc/os-release as shown above, as mentioned:
When updating Cockpit-related packages and any dependencies, make sure to use -t ...-backports as above, so backports are included.
